Central Mongolia & Khovsgol lake ( 21days )

On this tour, we will head the world’s freshest water Lake Khuvsgul in the remotest northern part of Mongolia. About a hundred freshwater mountain streams feed the lake while only one river source out. Khuvsgul Lake and its beautiful surrounding is a perfect place for nature lovers and recreational holiday lovers. Surrounding nature of the lake is pristine and awe-inspiring. The lake is not the only attraction. All the way to and back the lake highlights the most scenic and attractive places of central and northern Mongolia. As well as, rich in cultural items and ancient historical remains. Moreover, central and northern Mongolia is important pastoral areas where nomads herd their countless animals and their door is always open to visitors. Therefore, you can visit as many nomad families as you wish to see and learn their unique life.

Day 1, 10. ULAANBAATAR

 

Upon arrival at Chinggis Khan International Airport in Mongolia, you will meetwith our driver. Transfer to your hotel, settling in.After freshening up, at 12 pm we start our first day around Ulaanbaatar, we will take you in the restaurant of your choice and then we will visit Gandan Monastery, the largest and one of the most important monastery of Mongolia. From here we will go to the National History Museum which tells the rich history of Mongolia. The heart of Ulaanbaatar, Sukhbaatar Square. Here we will see the Parliament House, National Opera and City Hall. In the evening, you will attend a performance of traditional dancing and khoomii (Mongolian throat singing). Overnight in hotel.

Day 2. RUINS OF 12TH CENTURY CAPITAL CITY KHARKHORIN

 

We will travel on one of Mongolia’s few tarmac roads. There will be steppe landscape all the way. We’ll stop for picnic lunch at place with sand dunes and camels, locally known as “Little Gobi” or “Elsen Tasarkhai”.Travel to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital city of Great Mongolian Empire. Kharkhorin was established in the Valley of Orkhon River in 1220. It was one of the stops along the legendary Silk Road for 140 years. We will visit the oldest Buddhist monastery, Erdenezuu, the main treasure of Mongolian Buddhism. Erdenezuu Monastery was founded by Avtai Sain Khaan, a descendant of Chinggis Khan, on the ruins of Kharkhorin in 1586. Look around the little town of Kharkhorin and see the historical tower on the hill. Overnight in a nomadic family ger (B, L, D)

Day 3. ORKHON WATERFALL

 

Today is the day to explore the picturesque Orkhon Waterfall which is situated on the Orkhon River, Mongolia’s longest river at 1,120 km. The local name of the waterfall is Ulaan Tsutgalan and the height is 24 m. The waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. The water level of the waterfall fluctuates with the rainfall. Overnight in a nomadic family ger (B, L, D)

Day 4. TUVKHUN MONASTERY

 

We continue our journey to Tuvkhun Monastery, located at the peak of a remote, wooded mountain, built by Undur Gegeen Zanabazar in 1651 for his meditation. About 4 km hike up the mountain path leads to the Tuvkhun Monastery. Here we enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the scenery and visit the caves located around the monastery. Overnight in a nomadic family ger (B, L, D)

Day 5. TSENKHER HOT SPA

 

Travel to the Tsenkher Hot Spa, a sulphur spring that emerges from the ground at a sizzling 89C (192.2F). Facilities include outdoor and indoor baths, showers and accommodations. Overnight in a ger camp. (B, L, D)

 

Day 6. KHORGO Volcano and Terkhyn tsagaan Lake

 

Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park covers 77,267 hectars including astonishingly beautiful Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and Khorgo extinct volcano. Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake was formed by lava flows from volcanic eruption many millenium ago and is excellent for swimming. Hidden along the shore are stretches of sandy beach, perfect for swimming.On the east of the Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, dead volcano Khorgo lies. The volcanic crater is 200 meters wide and 100 meters deep. It’s surrounded by Khangai mountains, which reach as 3000 meters above the sea level.Overnight in a nomadic family ger (B, L, D)

Day 7. TERKHYN TSAGAAN LAKE

 

Drive to Tariat soum of Arkhangay province to see Terkhyn Tsagaan Lake National Park and Khorgo the one of the biggest burnt volcano crater in Mongolia. The  volcano was active around 8000 years ago. The crater depth is about 100 and 400 meters wide and its surrounding areas covered with up to 50 meters of lava. The sign of lava continues for around 100 km through the valley of Chuluut river.  Around the lake and volcano you can make hiking, its surrounding environment  is just incredible.Overnight in a nomadic family ger (B, L, D)

 

Day 8. RASHAANT SOUM

 

Drive to Rashaant soum.  It is Stay overnight in a Ger camp (B, L, D)

Day 9. HUVSGUL /murun/

 

Travel to MORON. Overnight in a hotel (B, L, D)

Day 10, 11. HUVSGUL LAKE

 

We arrive at Lake Khövsgöl, one of the natural wonders of the world. This mountain covers an area of 2760 square kilometres, and its water is so pure that we can drink it ! It's surrounded with many peaks culminating at more than 2000 metres and covered with forests of pines and lush meadows where yaks and horses graze !We go towards East and the green small valleys of Alag Sar, and spend the night in a small yurts camp.

 

 

Day 12. TSAGAAN NUUR /soum /

 

Travel to Tsagaannuur sum for 200kms. It will take about 6-7 hours. Upon your arrival you will see beautiful lake named “White Lake” and stay Ger camp at the shore of lake. It’s possible to do kayaking, canoeing or boat trips. (app.altitude 2716m above sea level).Ger camp B+L+D

Day 13,14,15. Reindeer herders in Taiga forest

 

Reindeer herders/Tsaatan people, who live in the exact place for an ancient traditions and oldest religious human belief – Shamanism, that rules the tribal life for thousands of years and still exists today. Photograph in high Taiga forest environment, primitive lifestyle and ancient strange culture, unique portraits of Reindeer herders, adorable Dukha children who are spending their summer holiday, playing and riding reindeer around. Late evening we will experience and capture Spiritual Shaman’s performance, sacrificing ceremony to the earth.  Tented camp. (B/L/D)

Day 16. BULGAN AIMAG

 

Drive to Bulgan aimag.  It is Stay overnight in a Ger camp (B, L, D)

Day 17. AMARBAYASGALANT MONASTERY

 

Travel to Amarbayasgalant Monastery, the largest Buddhist center in Northern Mongolia built in 1736 by the order of the King of Qin Dynasty. This monastery is one of the few monastic complexes that survived the religious purges of the 1930s nearly untouched. Overnight in a nomadic family ger.

Day 18. AGLAG BUTEEL MONASTERY

 

Go to Aglag Buteel Buddhist monastery, 100 km to North West of Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia’s renowned Buddhist lama and artist Purevbat has initiated one-the Aglag Buteel monastery. Purevbat has being constructed the monastery to the south of Garid (Garuda) Uul, a stunning mountain with larch forest. Granite rocks have been carved as statues of Buddhist tradition, each signifies a particular symbolic meaning. Enjoy walking tour around the monastery and explore its rich heritage.Overnight in a nomadic family ger (B, L, D)

Day 19. TERELJ NATIONAL PARK

 

Drive to Terelj National Park, one of the most visited sites near Ulaanbaatar. Terelj is set in the picturesque valley of granite mountains and the beautiful Terelj River. We will then visit the Turtle Rock and the Temple of Meditation. Hike around.

Day 20,21. ULAANBAATAR

 

Drive to Ulaanbaatar city. Overnight in hotel , transfer to departure
